About Us

You little ripper!

By Jingo can be traced as far back to the 17th Century, meaning ‘by Jesus’ and is a translation for the French par Dieu! (“by God!”). And, for Winemaker John Gilbert it is traced back to his Great Grandfather. ‘And boy By Jingo! What a wine’.

Grapes for By Jingo wines are from superior vineyard sites, sourced from the great regions of South Australia and include, Adelaide Hills, Barossa Valley, McLaren Vale and as far South as the Southern Fleurieu. We have taken great care to choose varieties and clones which compliment the environment. Varieties such as Montepulciano, Zinfandel, Nero d’Avola, Negroamaro and clones of Mendoza Chardonnay. Allowing Winemaker John Gilbert to express the exceptional qualities of each individual region and their terroir influence on the variety.  By Jingo alternative varieties will continue to increase as John has imported the variety Grillo from Sicily.

By Jingo wines are produced with an aim to retain varietal definition, whilst capturing structure, complexity, balance and adding to their great aging potential.
